Dogkit English Lab

Home / Our Story

A language lab, not a language factory

We started with one table in Bangsar, four coaches and a stubborn belief: learners improve fastest when the same expert teaches them every week and actually remembers their story.

How it began

From tuition burnout to a better room

Before Dogkit existed, our founding coaches worked at large tuition centres where a learner might meet six different teachers in six weeks. Progress reset every time. Notes were lost. Confidence, which is the real engine of fluency, never had time to build.

In 2023 we rented a small studio above the shophouses of Jalan Telawi and rebuilt the model from scratch: every learner keeps one coach, every lesson produces written feedback, and every course begins with a genuine assessment rather than a sales pitch.

Today the lab teaches live online classes to learners across Malaysia — from Penang students chasing IELTS bands to Johor engineers preparing for overseas postings — while the coaching team still fits around one long table for Friday planning.

What we stand on

Four rules we refuse to bend

  1. One coach per learner

Your coach knows your weak vowels, your job, your goals. That context compounds week after week.

  2. Native speakers only

Rhythm, idiom and natural phrasing cannot be taught from a textbook. Our coaches grew up inside the language.

  3. Evidence over vibes

Recorded lessons, written feedback and monthly reviews. You should never wonder whether you are improving.

  4. Honest placements

If a cheaper course or a self-study plan serves you better, we say so in the placement chat. Ask our alumni.

Where we teach from

Our studio sits in Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur — but your classroom is wherever you are. Lessons run over live video seven days a week, with slots from early morning to late evening so shift workers and school kids can both find a rhythm that holds.
